Amber Heard said she thought it was a joke when actor Johnny Depp reportedly slapped her for the first time when she asked about one of his tattoos.
Her ex-husband Depp filed a defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard over an op-ed she wrote about domestic abuse. She appeared at the Fairfax County Circuit Court in her first appearance in the trial this week, recalling how the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean star became violent when she asked him about the ‘Wino Forever’ tattoo he sports on his arm, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
Last month, the court eagerly awaited Heard’s side of the story after hearing Depp’s testimony. On Wednesday, the actor took the stand and said what she claims was the first of many times her ex hit her, claiming “it changed my life.”
Depp claimed that the incident occurred earlier in their relationship when she innocently inquired about a tattoo on his arm. Heard says Depp laughed when he explained, which set him off.
“It was that simple. I just laughed because I thought he was joking. And he slapped me across the face,” she said in court.
She said she thought the slap was a joke:
“I laughed, because I didn’t know what else to do. I thought, ‘This must be a joke.’ … I didn’t know what was going on. I just stared at him, kind of laughing still, thinking he was gonna start laughing too to tell me it was a joke. But he didn’t.”
According to Heard, Depp then slapped her again, pointing to her, “it was clear it wasn’t a joke anymore.”
She explained that while the slap did not hurt, it was still shocking. “It didn’t hurt; it didn’t physically hurt me,” she said, adding: “I didn’t want this to be the reality. I didn’t want to have the man I was in love with— I know you don’t come back from that.”
“I’m not dumb. You can’t hit a woman, you can’t hit a man. You can’t hit anyone,”
She told the court while crying on the witness stand. The actress concluded her account of the incident by describing how Depp apologized to her, falling to his knees.
It is clear that the version of events given by Heard differs dramatically from that of her ex-husband. During Depp’s testimony, he was asked about the ‘tattoo incident’ – which he called a “factual error”.
“I’ve never struck Ms. Heard. I have never struck a woman in my life. I’m certainly not going to strike a woman if she decides to make fun of a tattoo that I have on my body,” he said, adding: “That allegation never made any sense to me whatsoever.”

If infact Amber is not mentally sound, should she not get more sympathy ?
It’s unkind to be so mean to a sick person.
No, she’s an actress.
Honestly I truly believe that she’s lying. She sounds like she’s a victim when in truth she absolutely isn’t.
