Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger is a famous Austrian-American actor, film producer, business personality, former bodybuilder, and politician who also served as the 38th governor of California for seven years.
The Terminator star was married to a famous journalist and member of the Kennedy Family, Maria Shriver – their marriage lasted 35 years.
The former couple tied the knot in 1986 and shared four children: two daughters, Katherine and Christina, and two sons, Patrick and Christopher.
“Shriver and Schwarzenegger first met in August 1977 at the Robert F. Kennedy Tennis Tournament after being introduced by NBC’s Tom Brokaw. The two started dating shortly after,” per PEOPLE.
The Predator actor proposed to Shriver in August 1985, after seven years of dating, and she immediately said, ‘yes!’
“The two married on April 26, 1986, in a Catholic ceremony in Hyannis, Massachusetts. Shriver’s cousin, Caroline Kennedy, was maid of honor at the wedding.”
After twenty-five of marriage, Maria filed for divorce in 2011. Reports claim that their split was because of the True Lies actor’s extramarital affair with the family’s longtime housekeeper, Mildred Baena.
“After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart while we work on the future of our relationship. We are continuing to parent our four children together.”
“We consider this a private matter, and neither we nor any of our friends or family will have further comment,” a statement was released on behalf of the ex-couple.
While addressing the questions from the media about his affair with Baena, the former governor of California stated that he was truly for the hurt he caused to Maria and his family.
“After leaving the governor’s office, I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses, and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children, and my family. I am truly sorry.”
“I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not,” he added.
According to Daily Mail, their divorce was one of the most drawn-out divorces in Hollywood as it was finalized after almost a decade.
“It remains unclear as to why the settlement process has taken ten years to reach; however, the pair seem to have a very amicable relationship.”
Recently, Schwarzenegger’s elder son Patrick shared a photo from his 29th birthday party that included both Arnold and Maria; all smiles.
“Former First Lady of California, Maria beamed as she placed her hand on her son’s shoulder while Arnold smiled into the camera lens. Patrick appeared to be ecstatic with his parents’ presence on the night while he held a birthday dessert.”
“Patrick’s collage of images also included him posing for a snap with his stunning other half Abby as he toasted his big day with an alcoholic beverage.”
“He also added a picture of him standing in front of a bunch of balloons outside the restaurant giving the thumbs up.”
