Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is known for the versatility of her roles in several TV shows and movies, including Wednesday, The Darling Buds of May, Chicago, Entrapment, The Legend of Zorro, The Rebound, Traffic, Intolerable Cruelty, Ocean’s Twelve, The Terminal, Red 2, Broken City, Playing for Keeps, The Phantom, Les 1001 Nights, Blue Juice, Dad’s Army, The Mask of Zorro, The Haunting, and High Fidelity.
Born in September 1969 in Swansea, Zeta-Jones started dreaming of becoming an actress as a child and appeared in the West End productions of the musical Annie and Bugsy Malone. As a student, she studies a three-year course in musical theatre at Arts Educational School, London.
She started her acting at a young age and made her first stage breakthrough in 1987. She was only 17 at the time and appeared as a lead actress in 42nd Street.
However, her film debut was unsuccessful as her movie, 1001 Nights, didn’t perform well at the box office. However, the actress gained wide recognition in the early 1990s when she signed the comedy-drama TV series, The Darling Buds of May. It was one of the highest-rated television series in history.
Catherine achieved immense popularity in the late 1990s after the success of her movies Titanic, The Mask of Zorro, and Entrapment. By the 2000s, she was an established actress in Hollywood. She appeared in several top-charting films, including America’s Sweethearts and Chicago – the movie which earned her critical acclaim.
She won an Academy Award, a SAG Award, and a BAFTA Award for her outstanding performance as the Best Supporting Actress.
The Wednesday alum is married to American actor and film producer Michael Douglas who is 25 years older than her. The couple first met in 1998 at a film festival in France and started dating after that. A year later, they announced their engagement and eventually got married in November 2000.
It was Catherine’s first but Michael’s second marriage; he was previously married to Diandra Luker. He shared one son with her, The Runner actor Cameron Morrell Douglas.
With Catherine, Douglas welcomed two children – daughter Carys Zeta Douglas and son Dylan Michael Douglas.
Speaking of her kids, both Carys and Dylan seemed to have inherited the good looks and grace of their beautiful mum, but daughter Carys who is 20 years old now, is the spitting image of her famous mama.
The teenager was born on April 20, 2003, and has already caught the world’s attention. She has the same dark-colored hair as her mom and piercing brown eyes. The mother-daughter duo shares a sweet yet strong bond an often seen posing together on the red carpets.
In an interview with Hello Magazine, Zeta-Jones once admitted that both her kids have a knack for acting and will most likely join the entertainment industry sooner or later.
“When they’re on stage, you want to look at them. And they’re interested in the craft. My son wants to do a Bachelor of Arts in theatre. My daughter wanted to be a paediatrician until she was five, when she decided acting was better.”
And to keep her mom’s word, Carys had already joined the fashion world and appeared at the 2018 New York Fashion Week, where she received a lot of media hype and attention.
