Earlier this month, Shakira and her partner Gerard Pique announced their separation.
The 45-year-old Latina singer confirmed the news that she and the Barcelona footballer had parted ways. The couple stayed together for almost eleven years and shared two children.
The announcement came on June 4, 2022, when Shakira’s publicist made a statement on her behalf.
“We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”
The announcement was made when rumors were circulating about the 35-year-old footballer that he was cheating on the Queen of Latin music.
As per Daily Mail, a Spanish outlet reported that the couple had been living separately for a long time. And it was Shakira who kicked Pique out of her house.
Spanish journalist Emilio Pérez stated,
“Shakira has made the decision to separate. That is so. It has happened. That is why there is distance. Perhaps there is nothing left but that – infidelity has passed.”
Recently the singer’s former brother-in-law revealed that he knows the truth behind the couple’s breakup.
Roberto Garcia, the ex-boyfriend of Shakira’s sister, told a Spanish media outlet called EsDiario that the Waka Waka star was facing financial issues with her ex-partner.
Garcia said Pique needed a large sum of money, and she asked Shakira to lend him so he could make a significant investment in some business. But she refused. He also said that Shakira’s parents didn’t trust Pique and suggested she shouldn’t give him the money.
“According to what a person close to them told me, there has been an economic problem between the two. Supposedly, Piqué would have asked Shakira for money for an investment issue, and the singer’s family has refused to give it to him. They don’t mix their money, and they keep the family economy at 50%,” he said.
Roberto also claimed that Shakira never intended to marry Pique.
“Shakira fixed on Piqué because she liked him to be the father of her children. She knew she would never marry him.”
It seems like the former couple mutually decided to keep their relationship limited to their kids.
Previously during one of his interviews with Gary Neville in The Overlap, Gerard said he had no intentions of marrying Shakira because of her ‘mentality.’
“No, I’m not married. It’s her mentality. I like how we are right now. We have two kids, nine and seven, right now. We work ‘good’ as a couple.”
The Mirror also reported that the footballer once said he wouldn’t like to take things forward from where they already were.
“I like it how it is.” Said Pique.
It has also been reported the singer was followed and harassed by some suspicious men hanging around her place.
According to Marca, multiple people stalked her at her residence and sent harassing letters; some of the letters said that the senders wanted to marry her.
“I love you, beautiful woman. I’m coming for you, my love. I am ready to marry you right now.” Cheat Sheet reported.
Shakira’s brother has informed the Police, and an investigation is ongoing.
