Jennifer Lopez Says Sharing the ‘Super Bowl 2020’ Stage with Shakira was the World’s Worst Idea

Jennifer Lynn Lopez, also known as J.Lo, has recently shared in her Netflix documentary, ‘Halftime’ that her ‘2020 Superbowl Performance’ with the Queen of Latin music, Shakira was an absolute nightmare.

Halftime was released on Netflix on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. It is almost one hour and thirty-five minutes long.

In the documentary, the pop music icon talked about her frustrating experience with Shakira and called it “the worst idea in the world.”

The total duration of the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show, which took place in Miami at the Hardrock Stadium, was about 14 minutes, which meant that both Shakira and Jenn would have seven minutes each to perform their hit songs.

According to their fans, the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show was ‘a great idea’ as it came around a time when people were highly depressed and annoyed with all the Covid lockdowns and restrictions.

But fans had no idea that the global superstar, J.Lo, hated the suggestion from the very beginning.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Lopez said,

“We have six f***ing minutes. We have 30 seconds of a song, and if we take a minute, that’s it. We’ve got five left. But there’s got to be certain songs that we sing, though. We have to have our singing moments. It’s not going to be a dance f***ing revue. We have to sing our message.”

“This is the worst idea in the world to have two people do the Super Bowl,” she continued. “It was the worst idea in the world.”

She further said,

“This is something I have been working for and hoping for years. If it was going to be a double headliner, they should have given us 20 minutes. That’s what they should’ve f**king done.

Jenny’s manager Benny Medina shared her thoughts about the performance and sided with his client.

“Typically, you have one headliner at a Super Bowl,” Medina said, per Entertainment Weekly. “That headliner constructs a show, and, should they choose to have other guests, that’s their choice. It was an insult to say you needed two Latinas to do the job that one artist historically has done.”

According to a CNN report, Lopez’s performance didn’t go too well and generated controversy; the Federal Communications Commission received many complaints saying that it was highly inappropriate for children.

The report said that people didn’t like several things about the show, including Jenny’s scanty attire and her pole dancing; the singer danced on a pole during her performance.

It is to be kept in mind that this is not the first time that J.Lo has opened up about the difficulties and struggles she has faced in her career.

In one of her previous interviews with Rolling Stone, Lopez said,

“I think I’m an underdog; I always feel like I was scraping from the bottom. Always. It felt like I wasn’t the one that was supposed to be in the room.”
