Hailee Steinfeld Shares Surprising Lessons from Motherhood Journey

Hailee Steinfeld used the Nov. 3 edition of her Beau Society newsletter on Substack to answer a fan’s question about motherhood, and her answer was less about her daughter than about herself. “I’ve learned just how much of myself I still have to discover,” she wrote, according to E! Online.

She called that the short version. There was a long answer, she said, but she kept it brief.

What Hailee Steinfeld Wrote in Her Newsletter

Steinfeld told readers she went into motherhood expecting it to be about loving someone else. She said it is exactly that, and then some. What caught her off guard, she wrote, was how much her daughter is teaching her about herself. She listed the changes plainly. More patience. More presence. A sharper eye for the small things.

Six months into motherhood, Steinfeld turned the question around. New parents usually describe the first year in terms of the baby: sleep, feeds, firsts. She described a new mother finding out she was still unfinished, at the exact point when people assume their identity gets settled for them.

The Advice She Gives Everyone Else

Steinfeld admitted something in the same newsletter. She wrote that she is good at reminding people that they’re human, that things take time, and that nobody has to have everything figured out. Then she conceded she is not always good at taking that advice herself.

Two days later she was on the Nov. 5 episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, and she sounded like someone practicing it. She told Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos that this season of life has taught her to slow down and soak in small pockets of joy. Time for herself looks different now, she said, but she finds it.

Steinfeld’s second admission matters more than it looks. Plenty of people hand out patience freely and keep none for themselves. Steinfeld said so out loud, on her own Substack newsletter, prompted by nothing more than a fan’s question. People stuck in that gap rarely name it. She named it in writing, for anyone reading.

Steinfeld on Her Daughter Crawling

On the talk show, Steinfeld said time has gone strangely since the birth. Her daughter feels brand new and much older at once, she told the hosts, and she called the way time works crazy. Her daughter is on the move now. Steinfeld said she is crawling around, and the singer described her as a smart cookie, praising each new milestone.

Proud parent talk, delivered on morning television. Nothing unusual. What stands out is how neatly it matches the newsletter. Slow down, notice the little things, let time do what it does.

Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen’s Marriage

Steinfeld married Josh Allen in May 2025, and the couple’s baby girl is their first child. E! Online described the newsletter as Steinfeld learning to play new notes as a first-time mom.

Allen does not appear in her answers.

Hailee Steinfeld kept the focus on herself and her daughter, which fits the question she was asked. She has not said how the two of them split the work at home, or how marriage has shifted with a baby in the house. Her answer leaves a wife and actress, with Sinners and Hexed on her résumé, looking at the first year of parenthood and deciding the main discovery is herself. She ended the thought on what she doesn’t know yet, which is how much more there is to find.
