The lawyer who represented Johnny Depp during his successful defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, Camille Vasquez, has been promoted.
Brown Rudnick, the law firm that has been in the news in recent weeks for Vasquez, has announced today (7 June) that Vasquez will be promoted to partner, a position regarded as a solicitor’s zenith.
Vasquez’s promotion was announced by Brown Rudnick in a press release, citing her performance during Depp’s high-profile trial as the motivation for the promotion.
Chairman and CEO of Brown Rudnick, William Baldiga, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Camille to the partnership.
“Historically, we have reserved this announcement for the end of our fiscal year. But Camille’s performance during the Johnny Depp trial proved to the world that she was ready to take this next step now.”
Baldiga added: “We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to what she will accomplish as our newest partner.”
Vasquez said she was ‘delighted’ by the promotion and praised her ‘uniquely talented team’.
She wrote: “I am delighted that Brown Rudnick has given me its full vote of confidence by having me join the partnership.
“I’m proud of the uniquely talented team I’ve had the privilege to lead, which exemplified teamwork and collaboration, and I look forward to continuing to represent Brown Rudnick’s culture of excellence.”
The 34-year-old Vasquez specializes in litigation and arbitration, and she was one of nine lawyers involved in the case of Heard-Depp.
Depp’s victory was largely attributed to her courtroom performance, which won over the public.
Camille Vasquez celebrated the verdict outside the court after Johnny Depp won. A triumphant Camille Vasquez applauded the jury’s verdict outside the courtroom in Fairfax, Virginia.
The jury decided that Amber Heard did defame Johnny Depp in her Washington Post op-ed of 2018.
Heard was awarded $2 million for a part of her counterclaim and Depp $15 million in damages.
‘Today’s verdict confirms what we have said from the beginning – that the claims against Johnny Depp are defamatory and unsupported by any evidence,’ said Vasquez.
‘We are grateful, so grateful to the jury for their careful deliberation.’
