Following his brother’s tragic passing, Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter paid an emotional tribute to the pop singer in London’s O2 Arena on Sunday.
“The grieving singer could not hide his grief as a giant photo of his brother — his hands in a prayer position — was displayed at the back of the stage,” New York Post reported.
“He also wiped away tears as bandmate Kevin Richardson, 51, made a moving dedication to Carter’s late brother after they performed ‘No Place.’”
The 42-year-old musician wiped tears, looked at the sky, and said, “That song [No Place] is very special to us — because that song is about family.”
As he cried, Carter’s band members — A.J. McLean, Brian Littrell, and Howie Dorough hugged him and tried to console him.
“Tonight we’ve got got a little bit of heavy hearts. Because we lost one of our family members yesterday,” said Richardson.
“Nick’s little brother Aaron Carter passed away yesterday … We thank you guys for all your love, all your well-wishes, and all your support,” he said.
The band also played ‘Breathe’ – a song about missing your loved one so dearly, and band member Howie Dorough said,
“We’d like to dedicate this next song to our little brother Aaron Carter. You will be missed brother.”
Aaron Carter died on November 5 and was found dead in his bathtub.
“It is with the deepest regret to report Aaron Carter was found unresponsive this a.m. in his home in Palmdale, CA.” his representative said on Saturday.
The singer was best known for his 1997 debut single, Crush on You. During his career, he opened for the Backstreet Boys on numerous tours and concerts and became an established solo artist.
Aaron Carter sold millions of copies of his four albums during the late 90s and early noughties, the first of which was when he was only nine.
Also appearing in Broadway musicals and on the US TV show Dancing With The Stars, the star turned to rap.
He was the boy next door with a cute smile and a promising future in the entertainment industry. At just ten years old, he had already landed a record deal and was well on his way to becoming a pop sensation.
After his sudden death, Aaron’s elder brother Nick posted a series of photos on his Instagram account and penned a heartbreaking tribute for his younger brother.
“My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday, want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed,” he wrote.
He further added that the real culprits behind his brother’s passing were addiction and mental illness, “Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here. I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you, Chizz. Now you can finally have the peace you could never find here on earth….”
“God, Please take care of my baby brother.”
