Thousands of people rushed to defend a TikToker who was trolled for calling an $80 bag a ‘luxury item.’
Zoe Gabrielle is a Singaporean influencer who goes by the username @zohtaco on TikTok.
A few weeks ago, she shared a video on her account that showed her buying and unboxing her new Charles & Keith bag.

“my first luxury bag,” Zoe wrote on her video and thanked her dad in the caption.
The clip received almost 23 million views on TikTok, with 2.3 million likes and over 41,000 comments.
While some people adored her new bag and said it was beautiful and they were glad she got her hands on one, many others mocked Zoe for calling an $80 Charles & Keith bag a luxury item and made fun of her.

After receiving a massive backlash, the TikToker posted a follow-up video in which she replied to one hateful comment that read, “who’ gonna tell her?”
In her tearful response video, Zoe shared that she didn’t have a lot as a child, and her family had faced a lot of financial issues in the past. So, it was kind of a big deal for her when her dad bought her, her first branded bag.

“Replying to @cressy i am so happy and grateful for you, that you can consider charles and keith not a luxury. also btw if you google it, lots of sources do classify them as a luxury brand. So,” she captioned the second video.
“To you, an $80 bag may not be a luxury. For me and my family, it is a lot, and I’m so grateful that my dad was able to get me one. He worked so hard for that money,” said Zoe.
The second video also received over 7 million views and thousands of people rushed to defend Zoe and called out the haters for mocking her.
“No matter what brand it is. The most importantly is a gift from your father. That’s all. That is the MOST LUXURY GIFT is. Smile girl,” one wrote.
“I can tell how much you love your dad! I’m sorry you received hate. Those people need to do some soul searching cuz OOF. Love your bag!” a second said.
“omg!! she deserves everything nice in the world. don’t hurt her,” a third added.
Many people also tagged Charles & Keith’s official account on TikTok and asked the brand to “do something.”
According to The Straits Times, “After her videos became viral on the internet, the C&K owners in Singapore invited Zoe and her dad to have lunch with them at the company’s headquarters.
“We had such an amazing opportunity to visit @charleskeithofficial ‘s headquarters, and learn more about the behind-the-scenes! it was so fun, everybody was so nice and accommodating. we had the chance to sit down with keith and get to know their company a little better. thank you to everybody who has shown their support!!! 🙂 without you, we would never be here <3,” Zoe wrote alongside a photo of herself and her dad standing in front of the C&K headquarters on Instagram.

And the story didn’t just end there – earlier this month, Charles & Keith shared a photo of Gabrielle modeling one of their bags on their official Instagram account and said that Zoe is their new creative brand ambassador.
