In his book, The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, fifth in the line of succession to the British throne, described the day his son, Archie, was born in 2019.
Describing the extraordinary day at London’s Portland Hospital, Harry revealed he ate Nando’s chicken and used nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, to calm his nerves.
“Meg was so calm. I was calm too,” he wrote in his memoir. “But I saw two ways of enhancing my calm. One: Nando’s chicken (brought by our bodyguards). Two: A canister of laughing gas beside Meg’s bed. I took several slow, penetrating hits.”
He said that the Duchess of Sussex bounced on a giant purple ball as she went into labor and then took a bath while listening to ‘soulful hymns’ to relax her nerves.
Meanwhile, the younger son of King Charles III lit up the delivery room with electric candles and placed a photo of his late mother, The Princess of Wales, Lady Diana, on the table.
“Meg, bouncing on a giant purple ball, a proven way of giving Nature a push, laughed and rolled her eyes. I took several more hits, and now I was bouncing too,” he added.
He said when the nurse came to give some of the laughing gas, which is known to be a common pain reliever to Meghan, there was none left in the canister as he had used all of it.
Describing how the nurse surprisingly looked at the empty tank and then back at him, he wrote, “I could see the thought slowly dawning. Gracious, the husband’s had it all. “Sorry,” I said meekly.”
He said that the mood changed when the doctors decided to give Meghan an epidural to ease her pain.
“The anaesthetist hurried in. Off went the music, on went the lights. Whoa. Vibe change. After a last-minute worry that the baby may be tangled in his umbilical cord, Archie emerged unscathed and we wept with joy.”
Later, during the description of his daughter Lilibet’s birth, Harry joked that this time he didn’t touch the laughing gas as there was none.
When Meghan Markle first joined the Royal Family via her marriage to Prince William, her life drastically changed forever. The two first announced that they would be getting married back in November 2017. Harry designed a custom diamond engagement ring that he had given Markle for the proposal.
Ever since the two of them tied the knot in May 2018, Meghan and Harry have received an onslaught of controversy from the public and mainstream media. All of this proved to be too much for the couple, which ultimately led to the two of them leaving the Royal Family.
This left many people in shock, as never has such a high-profile member of the Royal Family left the firm in such a manner in recent history. In an interview that the couple gave Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry opened up about his fears of “history repeating itself” with his marriage to Meghan about the tragedy that took his own mother’s life.
Last year, the couple also participated in a Netflix series, a documentary, Harry & Meghan, and shared the complex journey from their courtship to their exit from the royal life in their own words.
The first part of the documentary was released on Netflix on December 8, comprises three episodes, and has received mixed reviews.
Many people criticized the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for participating in a Netflix series and opening up about their personal life after stepping back from their royal duties in 2020.
In the documentary, the couple, who got married in May 2018 and share two children together – Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 18 months, revealed that their romance began on Instagram.
“I was scrolling through my feed, and someone who was a friend had this video of the two of them, like a Snapchat,” said Harry.
The younger son of the new King said he was intrigued by Meghan’s snap which has a dog filter on her face.
“I wanted to know more about the woman behind the filter, so I asked, ‘who is that?’” he recalled.
Meghan who made headlines again after the release of the series, said that she had dealt with things that were rude and racist.
“I don’t even know where to begin, I just really want to get to the other side of all of this. I don’t know what to say anymore.”
