When Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes first started dating back in 2005, the world was taken by storm by the sheer magnitude of Hollywood’s newest “it couple.” Katie was still riding the high of having starred in Batman Begins, the first installment of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.
However, as is the case with many celebrity romances, the couple dubbed by the mainstream media as TomKat ended up separating in 2012. Since then, Katie has led a relatively quiet life away from the spotlight. And even though this was Hollywood’s it couple back in the day, the relationship didn’t end on the best of terms.
A Loving Mom
Katie has retained full custody over their daughter Suri ever since the couple first called it quits. And while Holmes has done her part in trying to make sure that Suri is protected from the limelight, she still occasionally shares some glimpses into their private life together.
In this photo that Holmes uploaded to her personal Instagram, Suri is seen playing with a child from the Moria refugee camp.
She also recently shared a throwback post together with her daughter to celebrate Mother’s Day last year – writing in the caption:
“I am so grateful to be a mom to the sweetest daughter. Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms!!!!!”
An Absentee Father?
And while Holmes does occasionally shore some photos of herself and Suri on her personal pages, the last time that Tom Cruise was photographed with his daughter was back in 2013. One year later, his ex-wife reportedly blindsided him by filing for a divorce.
Recent reports have stated that Cruise, 57, hasn’t even seen Suri in years. While there have been no definitive statements from the couple on why they ended on such bad terms, it’s been speculated that much of their quarrel had to do with Tom’s devotion to the Church of Scientology.
Samantha Domingo, a former member of the church organization that Tom belongs to, reported that the church doesn’t allow Cruise to have a relationship with his daughter. When asked about the photo that surfaced back in 2013, Domingo had this to say, “Maybe he did it for a photo op, to make it seem like he was connected so he wouldn’t be criticized.”
However, a spokesperson for the Church of Scientology has come out to deny the allegations that were made by Domingo, going as far as to call them works of fiction.
For their divorce proceedings, the Mission Impossible star admitted in a 2013 court deposition that Holmes’s reasons for filing for divorce revolved around her wanting to protect Suri from Scientology.
Who’s at Fault Here?
What do you think? Is Tom’s duty to his church better than his duty as a father? Did Katie do the right thing by protecting her daughter from Scientology and Tom himself? Comment how you feel about this messy situation in the comment section below.

I don’t believe he would do such a thing. She looks broken 💔 and sad. Children learned what they Lived.
Hi dear friend yes I absolutely think she did the right thing. But not allowing her to let Tom take her daughter to join the church that he belongs to and that he was wrong for doing it.
