Wayne Rooney is a professional football player who has played for Manchester United. He is now the manager of EFL Championship club Derby County. Today’s story is about his personal life and how his mistakes are something his wife has to live with.
Amazon Prime released a documentary on the 36-year-old on February 11, 2022, simply titled – Rooney. It depicts the life of Wayne and all of the trouble he has gotten himself into during his successful football career. Wayne & his wife Coleen had been dating since Coleen was 12. They had children when she was 16 and now share four boys together.
In the documentary, Coleen speaks up about going through troubling waters with her husband but still staying strong. Coleen Rooney said:
“When you’re making those decisions you’ve got to focus on what you want and not what else.”
“Obviously, I listen to the people who matter to me – my mum and dad and they’ve always given me a positive outlook on things and there’s nothing that we can’t deal with.”
“Hopefully he’s learnt and he doesn’t get himself into any of them horrible situations again.”
“But it’s happened and I’ve got to live with it and if I couldn’t cope with living with it I would have ended the relationship.”
“It’s not acceptable what he’s done, but it’s happened and that was in the stage of life we were in at the time but we’ve moved on,”
“I forgive him but it wasn’t acceptable. If it comes up, we’d talk about it like we’re talking about it now.”
While Wayne accepted his mistakes and spoke about them openly:
“I put myself in the wrong place and when you’re in the wrong place and there’s alc*hol involved then you’re going to make bad decisions and you’re going to have to suffer and deal with the consequences.
“That’s what happens.”
“It won’t happen again and I don’t want it to happen again.”
“For us to get through it, it’s tough. Tough days, weeks, tough months. But I feel we’ve been through hard times and it does make you stronger as well.”
