Hollywood superstar Harrison Ford is globally recognized for his roles in the Indiana Jones & Star Wars franchises, among a long list of unforgettable roles.

He’s a veteran actor who still holds untouchable status when it comes to excellent acting and carrying out different roles with finesse and perfection. Today’s story is about his love life, which had a rocky beginning but ended up being a good love story.

A Short-Lived First Marriage

Harrison’s love life initially wasn’t as successful as his career. He got married to Mary Marquardt in 1964. They shared two sons. But their marriage had a controversy attached to it.

During the filming of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Harrison had an affair with Carrie Fisher, which played a significant role in his marriage coming to an end in 1979.

Second Marriage, Drifting Apart

After having a rocky first marriage, Harrison Ford married Melissa Mathison in 1983. The couple seemed to be happy with each other, shared two children together, but slowly started to drift apart.

The couple started living separately in 2000 and got divorced in 2001.

Against All Odds, The Love of His Life Appears

Enter: Calista Flockhart. An incredibly-successful actress best known for playing the lead role in the hit TV series Ally McBeal. In 2002, Harrison Ford had his first meetup with Calista Flockhart. According to PEOPLE, she had every intention of meeting him because Calista:

“spilled her drink on him intentionally in order to meet him.”

The daring attempt ended up working in her favor as the two planned to meet afterward, where Calista asked her friend James Marsden to be her wingman. In an interview with Express, James Marsden spoke about how it happened:

“She said, ‘Come to dinner with me and Harrison.’ I’m like, ‘Me, you, and him?’ It turned out to be a small group of us, thankfully, but I ended up as her wingman.”

They had dinner together and went to hang out at Harrison Ford’s place. James Marsden recalls how different and happy Ford seemed around Calista:

“He was giggly and goofy around her but pretty aloof with the rest of us,”

His Age & Past Didn’t Matter to Her

Calista has always been vocal and open about her feelings for Ford. She never let his age or his past affect her feelings for him. During an interview with Hello! Magazine, she said:

“It doesn’t faze me. Sometimes I even say, ‘Wow, I keep forgetting that he’s 22 years older than me’. It doesn’t factor into our relationship at all,”

“I like the way he looks first thing in the morning. It’s not handsome, it’s more cute. He looks like a little boy,”

Mr. Ford shared similar feelings towards Calista; he told Hello! Magazine:

“I’m in love. Romantic love is one of the most exciting and fulfilling kinds of love and I think there is a potential for it at any stage of your life.”

Love without Judgements or Issues of the Past – A Marriage of Soulmates

Calista adopted a baby boy in 2001 – Liam Flockhart, and Harrison Ford welcomed her son with all of his love and happiness. While speaking to PARADE, Ford spoke about the importance of Liam in his life:

“I wasn’t expecting it at all. The unexpected part was certainly true, and the joy part is also true. I think Liam was about 6 or 8 months old when I met him and Calista. We have been together ever since.”

“On the weekends, I do whatever Calista and Liam want to do. We’ll take a couple of hours on Sunday morning to go motorcycle riding or go for a hike. I just made a birdhouse with my son.”

Despite having a complicated past and all odds against them, the two married in 2009 and are still going strong! They are inseparable, proving that real love truly conquers all. We wish the power couple more happiness and good health!

  1. I had the honor of meeting Harrison and Calista. Calista frequented our restaurant when she visited her parents. In 2009, Calista’s mother booked a private dinner at my restaurant after performing in a local theatre play of “Driving Miss Daisy.” Mrs. Flockhart, Calista’s mother, called every day for a week to be sure we had all the items for the party, i.e., wine glasses, desserts, etc. When Harrison arrived, I was exiting the restroom and he appeared as a tall man in my path. I knew who he was instantly. After walking past him, I whispered loudly to my co-workers, “That’s Harrison Ford.” Realizing we had 18 people to entertain and to feed, I proceeded to explain the menu choices. The evening was a huge success, even though my nerves made me spill sauce on my shirt. I asked Mr. Ford’s pilot if he thought Harrison would sign a menu and he said, “Ask him,” so I did. We have photos with the couple and Liam and signatures on our menu…all in a night to remember.
