Richard Tiffany Gere is an American actor. He began his acting career in the 1970s by playing a supporting role in ‘Looking for Mr. Goodbar’ and starring in Days of Heaven.
His prominent movies include Pretty Woman, Hachiko, Unfaithful, Runaway Bride, Shall We Dance, Autumn in New York, and American Gigolo.
In 1991 Richard married a supermodel named Cindy Crawford. However, their marriage didn’t last long and ended with a divorce in 1995.
After parting ways with his first wife, Gere started dating American actress Carey Lowell. The two shared an amazing bond and looked great together. Gere welcomed his first child, Homer, with Lowell in February 2000.
The two actors eventually got married in 2002. Their marriage lasted almost eleven years; in 2013, the couple split up. Their legal separation was finalized in October 2016.
In 2014, almost three years after parting ways with his second wife, Lowell, Gere found love again. This time he got along with a Spanish publicist and political activist, Alejandra Silva.
According to People, the couple tied the knot in a quiet ceremony in April 2018 after four years of dating each other.
“It’s amor! Richard Gere and his Spanish girlfriend Alejandra Silva have tied the knot”, wrote PEOPLE.
Like Richard, Silva also has a son from her previous marriage. She was married to Govin Friedland, the son of an American billionaire, Martin Friedland. Their marriage lasted for four years, and she eventually got divorced in 2014.
In 2015, she started dating Gere; the two had been in a long-distance relationship for some time. Speaking of her relationship with Gere, Alejandra told HOLA,
“It’s hard to coordinate, but we don’t go more than 20 days without seeing each other.”
She eventually moved to New York to live with Gere, and the two have been together since then. She is quite vocal about her relationship with the Pretty Woman actor and often shares intimate photos with him on her Instagram.
The couple has two children together and is very happy in their marriage.
As reported by Hello Magazine, the American Gigolo actor first met the love of his life when he was visiting Positano, Italy, in 2014. Gere was staying at a hotel owned by Alejandra’s family, where he first saw her.
“A friend introduced us; we looked at each other and felt a very strong connection. We couldn’t stop looking at each other all night, and since then, we haven’t been apart,” Silva, the Spanish publicist, told the outlet.
“At that time, we were both going through our divorce proceedings. Love stories with a complicated beginning, where you have to overcome difficulties together, can bring you closer… I’m sure I did [have some doubts] at some point. In the beginning, he was more convinced than me. But from very early on, we felt that we were destined to be together.”
Silva, who also runs a non-profit organization called Rais Fundacion, and aims to wipe out homelessness in Spain in five years, further said that she considers herself the luckiest woman in the world because her husband, Gere, is literally the best man she’d ever known.
“Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world… What could be more romantic than a man who writes you songs every day?” she continued. “He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I’ve ever met.”
“What can I say? I’m so in love! How would you feel if each morning you were asked, ‘What would make you happy today?’ Not a day goes by that he doesn’t mention how important I am to him. I feel very lucky.”
Speaking about their relationship, Richard also said that after marrying Alejandra, his life changed, and now he thinks that he is the happiest man in the world.
“How could I not be? I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world!”
While commenting on their 20-year age difference, Silva said that age is just a number for the couple, and energy-wise, Gere is way younger than her.
“In this life, it had to be like this. He has promised me at least 20 good years! I must confess that he has much more energy than me; he’s much more active. I find it hard to keep up with him. He’s not human. I love him madly.”
