Amber Heard stayed in a $22,000-a-month mansion in Virginia during her defamation battle with Johnny Depp (but claims she cannot afford to pay him $8million).
There is evidence that Amber Heard stayed in a luxury mansion worth $22,500 a month during her landmark defamation trial against Johnny Depp.
The 36-year-old paid for the 13,000 square-foot house throughout the trial, but she says she can’t afford to repay more than $8million that she owes her ex-husband after a jury ruled she defamed him.
She was ordered to pay Depp, 58, $15million – $10million as compensation and $5million as punitive damages. The judge later capped the damages at the Virginia maximum of $350,000. Heard is owed $8.35million, minus the $2million Depp was ordered to pay him.
According to TMZ, Heard’s attorney said the actress can ‘absolutely’ not afford to pay the damages and she plans to appeal. Despite Bredhoft’s assertions, the actress sat in luxury with her family as the trial played out.
She reportedly rented a 13,000-square-foot mansion in McLean, Virginia, a leafy D.C. It is a 25-minute drive to the Fairfax Country Courthouse, where her 6-week trial took place. The house sits on an acre of land and features a tennis court, a home movie theatre, eight bedrooms, and two sweeping staircases.
Zillow describes the property as ‘one of the most distinguished and luxurious estates in McLean,’ and raves about a ‘2 story grand foyer with an elegant double curved staircase, a dream for entertainers’.
