Benny Blanco is smitten.
In his interview for People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue, the Grammy-nominated producer couldn’t stop gushing about his relationship with Selena Gomez.
The 36-year-old songwriter revealed that waking up next to his rumored fiancée, with whom he’s been stirring up engagement talk for months, is truly the best part of his day.
“I’m a real morning person. It’s my favorite time to spend with Sel, because we both wake up really early. It’s like our moment before the rest of the world wakes up,” he said. “Every day is the best day of my life.”
The two began dating in mid-2023, and according to Blanco, the Wizards of Waverly Place star is his ‘true best friend’ and someone he feels fortunate to “do everything in the world” with.
He stressed that, in relationships, there should be “no playing games.”
“I [still] go all out for every date. It doesn’t mean spending your entire bank account. It means being attentive and listening,” he told the publication.
Even with his massive success in the music world, having collaborated with artists like Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, and Kanye West, the songwriter finds joy in the “simple” things. He enjoys making Gomez’s favorite meals from scratch, such as deep-fried pickles and his own version of Taco Bell.
He then revealed his secret for the perfect first date, suggesting it should be so memorable that your partner calls their friends and says, “Oh my God… this was the craziest thing.”
“It’s got to be something insane because you want to leave an impression,” he continued. “The person’s going to be going out on a bunch of first dates, and you got to secure your spot.”
Benny also mentioned that he makes an effort to create special moments because “everyone’s so damn busy.”
“Everyone has so much work to do, everyone’s so stressed. If we can just sit back and forget everything for an hour to four hours — if it’s a good date, five — then things are good,” he added. “Don’t you leave a date sometimes and you’re like, “Oh my God, what the hell? Time flew!”‘
The songwriter also shared that Selena is a true romantic at heart.
“We go all out for each other. One time Sel was like, “Oh, I want to take you on a date.” We drove somewhere and she had rented out a whole botanical garden for me,” he said.
The first time they faced long distance, Benny shared that Selena made him a bear that, when he pressed its hand, would say, “I miss you so much. You’re going to be okay. I’ll see you when I get back.”
“She’s very good at gifting. She does the same thing as me: Most of our gifts, we make them for each other,” he gushed.
He added that Gomez prefers “simple” dates, such as picking up fast food or when he brings her treats like “candies and Hot Cheetos.”
“The No. 1 thing you need to do on a date is just listen to what the person’s saying. Don’t talk about yourself the whole time. No one cares,” he said.
Regarding gift-giving, the record producer said he prefers not to “buy something that everyone else is going to buy.”
