Candace Cameron Bure Unfollows Jodie Sweetin Amid ‘Traditional Marriage’ Comment Controversy

American actress and reality TV star Candace Cameron Bure has unfollowed her Full House co-star Jodie Sweetin on Instagram.

On the other hand, the Merry & Bright actress still follows Cameron, who played the role of her sister in the hit sitcom.

According to Daily Mail, “Despite more than three decades of friendship and recently starring in their Netflix’s spin-off of their hit series, the pair appear to be at odds over Bure’s recent comments about her plans to work with a network that solely depicts ‘traditional marriage.’”

Jodie, 40, and Candace, 46, first gained prominence when they appeared on ABC’s Full House in the late 1980s. They starred as sisters on the blockbuster show that continued for eight seasons.

Both actresses reprised their roles in the show’s spin-off on Netflix in 2016 and have remained close until now.

In fact, Bure also attended Jodie’s July wedding along with their other costars and wrote via Instagram.

“Gorgeous Bride. Handsome groom. Beautiful evening. Every detail was perfection. Even your dad’s speech. Love you, little sis. Congratulations.”

The duo’s rift occurred when Bure made headlines for her controversial remarks on traditional marriage.

“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,” she told Wall Street Journal Magazine about her Great American Family Network venture. “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment. … I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.”

The Christmas Detour star sparked heated debate over her comments on marriage equality, and many fellow celebrities criticized her, including Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush, and JoJo Siwa.

While her on-screen sister, Sweetin, didn’t unfollow Bure on social media, she did back up Siwa for her take on Bure’s take. “She did recently show her support for JoJo Siwa, who posted an article with the headline, ‘Candace Cameron Bure’s Plan For New Cable Channel: No Gays.”

The Hollywood Darlings actress commented on Siwa’s post and wrote, “You know I love you” alongside two heart emojis.

Jodie’s comment on Siwa’s post received massive support from her fans, and the majority backed her up for speaking up.

“At least she has the support from one of the “tanner sisters” … you should really talk to your girl @candacecbure. Seems like she needs a refresher in Christianity, God loves ALL his children!” one user responded to her comment on Instagram.

Another user wrote, “I love you, Jodie. I’m sure these situations put you in a hard place, but I thank you for always standing up for our community. You’re awesome.”

The American dancer and Boomerang singer also lashed out at Candace for her rude behavior and wrote on her Instagram.

“Honestly, I can’t believe, after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with the intention of excluding LGBTQIA+ but then also talk about it in the press. This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.”
