Question of the century: How to get over a crush?
Crushes can always make for tricky situations. Sometimes, they have the potential to become something so much more than just a crush. And you are hopeful for that best-case scenario.
And then there are times where a crush is just a crush, and you don’t feel compelled to act on your crush. But then there are the few devastating times wherein you have a crush on someone, but you can’t do anything about it for several reasons:
- Your crush is dating someone else.
- Your crush lives far away from you.
- Your crush isn’t into dating anyone at the moment.
These are just a few examples, but the possibilities are endless. It’s hard whenever you get caught in these types of situations because you are completely helpless. First of all, you can’t control your feelings.
When you are attracted to a person, you are excited about them. It’s not just like some light switch that you can flick up or down. It’s not necessarily something that you can just will yourself to not feel. And that’s the most annoying part of it.
It can be incredibly frustrating when you have a crush that you’re unable to do anything about. Not only can’t you switch off your emotions, but you’re also not allowed to act on them either. So you just let them keep building up inside of you.
They’re slowly eating away at your system, and you want to be able to free yourself from this emotional prison that you have somehow put yourself in. But how do you do that? How do you get over a person who was never even yours, to begin with? How do you get over having a crush on someone?
Fortunately, there are a few tips that you could follow. It’s weird how a person is having such a significant impact on your life without them knowing about it. So you want to rid yourself of this bizarre situation that you’re in. Don’t worry. Just make sure to breathe, relax, and follow the things that are listed here. If you are diligent enough, you will find yourself getting over your crush in no time.
Here are three major and easy ways on how to get over your crush.
So without further ado, here are a few things you could do to help you get over your crush:
You’re never going to get over your crush if you keep on drooling all over their Instagram and Facebook feeds. You will never get over your crush if you keep on following every single Twitter thread that they participate in. You have to be able to cleanse yourself of your crush’s presence if you want to move on in life.
And as difficult as it may sound, that cleanse carries over into social media as well. If you’re going to get over your crush, you are going to have to block yourself from anything that reminds you of them. So unfollow them on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat if you want to get over them. Once you think you’re over it, then maybe it would be okay for you to be following them again.
2. Find a new person to have a crush on.
One of the most effective ways of getting over a crush is to find a new person to develop a crush on. Your heart can only accommodate so many people in life. And so if you can find a new person to have a crush on, then that’s great news for you. It means that you are finally allowing yourself to feel things for another person.
Slowly but surely, your new crush is going to help you forget about your old one. And if you’re lucky, this new crush of yours is someone you’re going to be able to pursue without guilt or hesitation. Before you know it, you’re not going to have feelings for your old crush anymore when it’s all said and done.
3. Just be real with yourself.
On some infrequent occasions, sheer willpower will be enough for you to overcome whatever emotions that you’re feeling at the moment. If you take a long hard look at yourself and do some profound thinking about your feelings and the gravity of your situation, you will be able to overcome your emotions.
Granted, not all people have the brainpower to control their emotions in such a manner, but there’s no harm in trying. There’s nothing else left to lose. You have to be able to convince yourself that your feelings are pointless, and you’re going to have to move on if you want to continue to be happy.
