Heidi Klum Explains Tom Kaulitz’s Absence from Halloween Party

Heidi Klum walked the red carpet at her 25th Annual Halloween Party on October 31 without her husband. Tom Kaulitz was missing from Cathédrale Restaurant in New York. The supermodel explained why while standing there dressed as a giant severed hand, and the answer was simple. He was in Europe, working.

Why Tom Kaulitz Missed the Halloween Party

Kaulitz is on tour with Tokio Hotel. He plays in the band alongside his twin brother Bill Kaulitz, who fronts the group. Klum told Entertainment Tonight at the event that her husband was away because “he’s on tour right now, and I’m going to join him on tour.”

Timing explains the empty spot beside her. Tokio Hotel released their latest album, Encore, on October 25, six days before the party. According to E! Online, the band is traveling around their native Germany and several other European stops through late October and November. Just Jared reported the group had a show in Germany that same night.

Klum pointed out her engagement rings and wedding band to the ET camera before she answered. Then she added that “you know he’s always with me.”

Heidi Klum’s Creative Costume Inspiration

Klum’s look this year was her own left hand. Literally. She told E! News on the red carpet that she stared at her hand and wondered how to fit her whole body inside it. Her team found a way.

Gore was promised early. Back in September, she told People her look would be “very, very bloody,” and that going gory is what Halloween is about for her. Just Jared described the finished result as a gigantic bloody hand. Exactly as advertised. The 53-year-old Project Runway host has built her reputation on this kind of commitment, and E! Online called her the Queen of Halloween without much argument.

Choosing the left hand matters here. That is the hand with the rings. Her husband was absent, and she built her entire costume around the one part of her body that carries him.

What “Tom I Miss You” Says About Them

Klum wrote “Tom” inside her real ring finger, under the costume, then shared a picture of it with the caption “Tom i miss you.”

Small gesture. Nobody on the red carpet would have seen it unless she showed them.

Your partner leaves for weeks, and you probably lean on the big check-ins: the scheduled call, the visit on the calendar. Klum and Kaulitz work with something quieter. She told the camera plainly that he couldn’t be there because he’s on tour, then posted “Tom i miss you” for everyone to see. She named the plan to go to him. She did not pretend the night was complete without him. She did not sulk about it either. Saying you miss someone in public, simply and without drama, takes more steadiness than most people manage.

Kaulitz has shown up for her version of the holiday before. At last year’s party he dressed as a warrior turned to stone next to her Medusa. He told E! News at the time that coordinating is not always easy, recalling the year they did E.T. and had to decide whether both would be the alien. “I always have to come up with something that matches,” he said.

He treats her biggest night of the year as a joint project. She treats his tour as somewhere she is headed next. That reciprocity is the whole marriage on display.

Heidi Klum Halloween Party Highlights

Page Six ran a red carpet gallery from the New York bash, calling the hand possibly her most outrageous costume yet. Twenty-five parties in, Heidi Klum is still finding new ways to top herself.

Klum shares four children, one with ex Flavio Briatore and three with ex Seal. None of them featured in the reporting from this year’s carpet.

Her next stop is Germany or wherever Tokio Hotel is playing when she lands. Neither she nor Kaulitz has said which tour date she will join.
