Crystal Hefner says her marriage to Hugh Hefner was humiliating and embarrassing. In an exclusive interview with Page Six published Oct. 31, the 40-year-old described being pressured into intimate encounters with strangers she did not know during the almost five years she was his wife.
Nearly a decade has passed since his death. She is still fighting over what he left behind.
Crystal Hefner’s Revelations About Marriage
Crystal, a model and former Playboy Playmate, was 26 when she married Hefner in 2012. He was decades older and ran the empire that had made her famous. She stayed his wife until he died in 2017 at age 91.
Her account to Page Six starts long before the wedding. She told the outlet she came from a broken home and grew up without a father. She drew a direct line between that background and how she ended up at the mansion.
“Hef chose people he could easily manipulate,” she said.
Her story lands alongside earlier ones. Former Hefner girlfriends, including Girls Next Door stars Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt, have made similar allegations of being pressured into intimacy over the past decade. Crystal’s account echoes theirs, Page Six noted.
The Humiliation Rituals Described
Life inside the Playboy Mansion, as Crystal tells it, looked nothing like the carefree pleasure palace sold to the public. She called it a humiliation ritual up there.
She told Page Six that Hefner built his business by collecting women with broken wings. She credited the phrase to another woman, Mary, who told her Hef chose the broken ones. Crystal added that he should have been finding them therapists, not bringing them to his bedroom.
Power in a marriage rarely announces itself. A 26-year-old with no father figure, married to the man who owns the house, the brand and the guest list, does not hold much leverage. Saying no costs more when the other person controls where you sleep. Crystal’s own explanation is that Hefner looked for exactly that imbalance, and her version describes control dressed up as glamour.
Hugh Hefner’s Control Over Women
Hefner’s archive is where the fight is now. In February, Crystal’s attorney, Gloria Allred, announced regulatory complaints in California and Illinois over how the Hugh M. Hefner Foundation handles his private archive.

Roughly 3,000 scrapbooks.
Crystal Hefner says the scrapbooks allegedly hold intimate photographs of women, and that some of those images were taken without consent. She also raised concerns that some could show minors, an implication Hefner’s sons Cooper and Marston have disputed, according to Page Six.
Crystal believes he kept the women in those pages as trophies. She told the outlet that some photos carried no name at all, just labels like Monday or Wednesday attached to a picture of an undressed woman. She called it disgusting. She also described a black book in which, she said, Hefner logged every woman he slept with.
Cataloguing people by weekday says plenty about how someone sees them. Crystal’s argument is that the collecting was the point. Each woman became an entry, and the record outlived the relationship by years.
What Crystal Hefner Wants for Other Women
Crystal Hefner’s demand is specific. She wants women put in charge of the archive. She wants intimate and nonconsensual images destroyed.
Her reasoning is about who gets to own the memory. A photo taken without consent does not stop being a violation because the photographer died. As long as the scrapbooks sit in a foundation’s care, the women in them have no say over images of their own bodies. Crystal is asking for that say to be handed back.
Neither the foundation’s response to the complaints nor any outcome from regulators in California or Illinois appears in Page Six’s report. The roughly 3,000 scrapbooks still exist.
