Jennifer Lopez’s Ex-Husband Partially Blames Diddy for their Divorce

Jennifer Lopez’s ex-husband, Ojani Noa, recently shared that he thinks Sean John Combs, popularly known as Diddy, played a role in their short marriage ending.

Speaking on Despierta America, the 50-year-old actor opened up about his split from the 55-year-old star, saying that part of their divorce was because of the rapper’s influence.

“When Sony came and paid her the millions she got, there was Puffy [Combs], who was going to be one of the producers of several tracks on the first album On The 6,” he said.

“I was in Los Angeles opening my restaurant, and she was between Miami and New York working on the album.”

Noa and Lopez were married for a short time, from 1997 to 1998. When they first crossed paths, Ojani was working as a waiter at Lario’s On the Beach, a Miami restaurant owned by Gloria Estefan. Jennifer, who had already starred in Money Train and was in the middle of shooting Blood and Wine, was a rising star, though Ojani didn’t recognize her.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Ojani revealed how Jennifer’s life as a ‘megastar’ ultimately impacted their marriage.

“There were many times I felt like Mr Cinderella. She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. In the beginning, I had no idea who she was,” he told the outlet.

“We fell in love when she was already famous. But during our marriage she became a megastar. For years it was too painful to talk about. I wanted to lie low and live my life.”

The two had their first kiss at the wrap party for Blood and Wine, but then Jennifer returned to Los Angeles. They talked on the phone for weeks before Ojani went to join her at the film’s premiere.

“After the premiere we went back to her hotel. That was the first time we made love. It was perfect. She was perfect. We lay there afterwards and she said, “I want you to always be in my life. I love you.”’ He recalled.

Although the couple was deeply in love, Ojani’s life became “upside down” when Jennifer got the lead role in Selena.

“She went from Jen to being J Lo, this big business bringing in millions. She had all these new people around her, all wanting to make money off her. I would call and an assistant would say, “Sorry, she’s not available.’”

Even after they got married, their relationship deteriorated further when photos of Lopez with Diddy, who was producing her album, started to emerge. Jennifer reportedly told Ojani that she “couldn’t” have children at that time because it would hurt her career.

“I rang Jen and asked why she was going out with him on dates and she said, “It’s just business,” he continued. “This is what I’m being told I have to do.” I was jealous and would scream, “But you are married!”

“We wanted kids, we discussed having kids. Then she told me she couldn’t have a baby because it would interfere with her career.”

Noa, a personal trainer, also alleged that he was urged to “fake it” during their trip to Chicago in 1997 for an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

“Oprah knew we were having problems. I was sitting in the audience and thought Oprah would come to me because we had talked about it beforehand. Oprah said to Jen, “I hear you guys are having problems.” With that beautiful face and that beautiful smile, Jen said, “No, everything is amazing.” Or something like that.”

The couple eventually parted ways, and the Maid in Manhattan star started dating Diddy publicly. However, she still maintained a close relationship with Ojani.

“There were times she told me she wanted to get back together. In quiet moments, she would say, “I need you in my life. I don’t want to lose you,”’ he said.
