It’s been publicly documented that Kelly Clarkson has recently gone through a messy divorce. But now that that part of her life is behind her, Clarkson is moving on and pushing forward. One of the ways that she’s looking toward the future is by officially changing her name.
While she is popularly known as Kelly Clarkson, she had changed her name to Kelly Blackstock after her marriage to former manager – Brandon Blackstock. But now that she’s moving on with her life, Kelly is taking this fresh chapter as an opportunity to change her name.
Of course, one of the major apprehensions that the American Idol alum’s fans have about this decision is that she runs a six-time Emmy-winning talk show that bears her Kelly Clarkson name. Well, publicists for Clarkson have already come out to say that the show will not be changing its name to accommodate for the actual change that’s taking place in Kelly’s personal life.
This is undoubtedly a welcome development as the Kelly Clarkson name has already developed itself as a brand entity, particularly regarding the talk show and the singer’s persona.
Entertainment Tonight officially confirmed the name change by securing court documents back on March 28 of this year through the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles.
It’s been reported that the initiative to change her name started back in February when the documents were originally filed. As of now, it’s not necessarily clear how this name change will impact the singer’s career moving forward.
One of the key determinants of the name change was the complicated divorce proceedings that Kelly had to undergo with her ex-husband and ex-manager, Brandon Blackstock. The couple shares two children together, River and Remington. And despite being married for nearly seven years, the 39-year-old singer filed for divorce in June 2020.
One of the most significant complications from the divorce proceedings revolved around a hotly contested Montana ranch valued at around $17.75 million. Blackstock made the case that he was entitled to 50% of the ranch, but the court eventually ruled that Brandon only had a 5.12% ownership stake of the ranch, amounting to $908,800.
As of now, Clarkson is looking to push forward in her life and put this particularly tainted phase of her life behind her. She’s also putting a lot of focus and attention on her children. She has even admitted to having her kids see therapists and child psychologists to help them deal with the trauma of their parents going through such a nasty public divorce.
Professionally speaking, Kelly still has a lot of upward mobility with the success of her talk show, and her stint as one of the judges on the hit reality singing show – The Voice.
