Michael J. Fox marked his daughter’s birthday on November 3 with an Instagram post full of old and new photos, according to E! Online. The Back to the Future star wrote that she had been “many people over the last quarter century…all of them fabulous!”
He signed off by telling her how much he loves her.
Michael J Fox is 65. His daughter with Tracy Pollan is the youngest of their four children, and he does not post family photos often. E! Online described the images as a rare glimpse.
Short caption. A pet name at the top, a line about who she has become, and a plain declaration of love at the bottom. No hashtags, no speech. A father who has spent decades in front of cameras kept this one small.
Photos Show Her Milestones Over the Years
Fox’s post moved back and forth in time. One photo showed Esme as a little kid with her mother. Others came from her adult life, like running the New York City Marathon and graduating from Duke University.
Parents who pick birthday photos usually reach for the cute ones. Fox put the marathon and the diploma in the same post as the childhood snapshot. He was showing the whole stretch of her life, start to now, and the caption about her being many people made the point for him.
Family’s Support During Fox’s Parkinson’s Fight
Two months before that birthday post, the whole family stood behind Fox at the 2026 Emmys in September. All four of his children joined him there as he received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, E! Online reported.
Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991. On that Emmys stage he thanked his family for their sacrifices, their patience and their love, and told the room it had no idea what they had gone through. He also credited his audiences for making him feel he had not lost his work. Accepting the disease, he said, never meant surrendering to it.

Thirty-five years is most of his daughter’s life and then some. She has never known a version of her father without the diagnosis. Her childhood, her Duke years, her marathon all happened inside a family organised around a disease nobody chose. Fox said as much without saying it. The thank-you at the Emmys went to all of them by name in spirit, and the birthday post went to one.
Families in that position tend to split two ways. Some let the illness become the story of every holiday and every milestone. Others refuse to let it take the birthdays. Fox’s post sits firmly in the second camp. Parkinson’s is NOWHERE in the caption.
His Children Run for Their Father’s Foundation
In March, his daughter and one of her siblings ran the New York City Half Marathon for Team Fox, raising money for the foundation he started to find a cure. Fox congratulated them on Instagram at the time and said the family was proud of the love and effort the runners put in.
The two posts, eight months apart, point the same direction. In March his children ran for him. In November he celebrated one of them for being herself. Michael J. Fox celebrated his daughter Esme’s 25th birthday with sweet photos on Instagram.
Tracy Pollan appears in a photo of her as a little kid with Esme.
