This incredible story sounds like a fairy-tale come true! It comes from St. Petersburg, Florida, USA, and it’s about two people who were preschool sweethearts, grew distant because of changing lives and schools, met again on a dating website after 30 years, and are now getting married!
True Love Never Ends
Justin Pounders & Amy Giberson were both three years old when they became best friends at Sunshine Preschool. According to their teacher, the two had an adorable romance going on and were very friendly with each other.
While speaking with PEOPLE, the school’s former owner & teacher Diane Twar said:
“They had a blast with each other,”
“It was a quiet, bashful romance. They liked each other from afar, it was a young love, like a sweet crush, you know? They insisted on sitting next to each other in our school picture.”
After their preschool, the pair separated because of different schools and colleges. They both grew apart, forgot about each other because it was at such a young age, and started living their lives without keeping in touch. But fate had something different in store for them as they would meet again!
I Found You, You Found Me
At the age of 32, Justin & Amy didn’t know each other anymore. They both came back to St. Petersburg and were looking for love on dating websites. One day, something amazing happened – they matched on a dating website Match.com!
Justin messaged Amy the moment he saw her profile. He felt something, something different and familiar at the same time. He told PEOPLE about it:
“I saw her photo and for whatever reason, was instantly drawn to her,”
“She just had this great energy, you could tell. I can’t explain it, but I knew I had to get to know this girl.”
After a chat, they started talking to each other regularly and planned to meet for their first date. Keep in mind that these two still had no idea they were the same people from preschool.
Amy spoke about it while talking to PEOPLE:
“Of course, at that point, we still didn’t know we had been pre-K sweethearts, but when we met up and we hugged, it was like I had known him my whole life,”
“When I first saw him, I felt that I was staring at the man I was going to marry.”
Amy & Justin fell in love and officially started dating the moment they met – still not knowing that they’re preschool sweethearts.
Long-Lost Love, Found Again
Almost a year after their first date, the couple found out that they were the same Amy & Justin who were in love long ago. Amy spoke about how they found out:
“We were in the car and Justin casually mentioned that he loved my name because he had had a crush on a girl named Amy in his preschool,”
“Then I joked to him, ‘Well, it’s not me, so I don t want to hear about her!’”
But it made both of them think, and they asked their parents for help. Amy continued:
“We asked our parents to dig up any preschool photos they had,”
“Justin’s mom found a photo of the two of us together and I just started crying, I was ecstatic. I was the Amy he had liked all those years ago! It was definitely meant to be.”
Justin told PEOPLE how he felt about finding out that Amy was actually the same girl he was so fond of in preschool:
“Someone or something definitely decided we weren’t supposed to reconnect until now,”
“We’ve been so close to finding each other this whole time but didn’t until the time was right. And that’s now.”
“It was meant to be,”
