Selena Gomez Becomes the First Woman to Hit 400 Million Followers on Instagram

Queen of Instagram!

The Wizards of Waverly Place star achieved this new milestone on Friday and hit 400 million followers on the social media platform. It happened weeks after Selena beat Kylie as the most followed woman on Instagram.

The last few weeks saw Selena, Kylie, and Hailey going viral on social media after the latter two shaded Gomez.

And it happened on Instagram stories…

Bieber, 26, reposted a lifestyle account’s Instagram story on her profile which featured her Rhode skincare kit. Hailey also added music to her repost and played ‘Calm Down’ song.

However, she added the original version of the song and not the one that featured Selena.

After watching her stories, fans speculated that Hailey did it intentionally due to their “history.”

Then, Jenner, 25, was also accused of mocking Gomez when she shared her “eyebrows” story on Instagram, including a screenshot from her video call with Bieber.

The drama started after Kylie, 25, posted a story on her Instagram and said she ‘accidentally laminated her eyebrows too much.’

Some fans took Kylie’s stories as an attempt to shade Gomez, who had also posted about “accidentally laminating her eyebrows too much,” in her new TikTok video.

“Some critics raised eyebrows again and thought Jenner was shading Gomez again when she followed up by posting what appeared to be a screenshot of her Facetime call with Hailey Bieber, that zoomed in on their eyebrows,” Daily Mail reported.

It was also pointed out in the viral TikTok by @devotedly.yours that Jenner was probably feeling threatened by Gomez for being dethroned by her as the most followed woman on Instagram.

Responding to the criticism, Kylie addressed the rumors about her making fun of Selena’s eyebrows.

The Kylie Cosmetics founder denied throwing shade at Gomez and said the post was silly.

“‘this is reaching. no shade towards selena ever and i didn’t see her eyebrow posts! u guys are making something out of nothing. this is silly,” she wrote in the comment section of the viral TikTok by user @devotedly.yours.

“I could be reaching, but it definitely feels like Kylie Jenner’s IG stories were towards Selena Gomez. Especially the screenshot of her facetime call with Hailey Bieber. This feels very HS,” the TikToker captioned her now-viral video on the platform.

Selena also agreed with Kylie that people are making a big deal out of nothing and commented that it’s all unnecessary.

“Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!” she commented.

But the backlash didn’t stop there and people slammed both Kylie and Hailey for shading their favorite, Selena Gomez.

Amid the backlash, Kylie lost over one million followers on Instagram, and Gomez gained 10 million and became the most-followed female celebrity on the platform.

Following the eyebrows controversy, Hailey Bieber wished husband, Justin Bieber on Instagram by posting romantic photos with him.

“29 never looked so good,” she wrote. “Happy Birthday to you best friend! Words couldn’t possibly sum up all that you embody. So here’s to more joy, more travel, yummy food, adventures, more peace, fun, and most of all more love.”

But instead of appreciation and love, Hailey’s post received hundreds and thousands of negative comments and people trolled her for shading Gomez.

“You’re trying so hard to show us you’re in a happy marriage. We know the truth. Only time will tell,” one wrote.

“We do not care about your divorce,” a second commented.

“MARRIED BUT STILL FEELS INSECURE AND JEALOUS?” someone wrote.

“Holding onto something that is forced and dead. Girl he never even wore his ring . This marriage is so forced and you know it. But you’re still holding on to dear life to keep that last name. Fkn Sad!” a fourth said.

Now, Selena is the third most followed person on Instagram after football legends Cristiano Ronaldo, who boasts 562 million followers on the platform, and Lionel Messi, who has 442 million fans on the platform.
