The social media treatment during the Johnny Depp trial was not fair, says Amber Heard

Amber Heard is looking back on the social media saga she experienced during her prolonged court case with Johnny Depp.

She has given an exclusive interview to NBC News nearly two weeks after a Virginia jury found her liable for defaming Depp. It will be first interview since her trial ended. Heard said that the online discussion that followed throughout the legal battle wasn’t “fair” in a clip released by the network on June 12.  The exclusive interview will air on NBC News’ Today on Tuesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 15, with a second portion on Dateline NBC at 8 p.m./7 p.m. CT.

“Even somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol,” the actress told Savannah Guthrie on Today. “Even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there's been a fair representation. You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.”

During the course of the almost six-week trial, millions of social media users became engrossed in every detail that came out of Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation suit against his ex-wife. Depp filed the lawsuit against his ex-wife in a Virginia courtroom in April, and his case occupied the attention of millions of people on social media.

Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp was awarded a total of $15million (£12m) in compensatory and punitive damages after a jury determined Heard, 36, did defame him in a 2018 article she wrote about her domestic abuse experiences.

Depp initially sued Heard, 58, for $50m (£40m), but she countersued for $100m (£80m). With the jury’s verdict in the actor’s favor, the jury decided to award him $10m (£7m) in compensatory damages as well as $5m (£3.9m) in punitive damages.

Punitive damages, on the other hand, are capped at $350,000 (£279k) under Virginia law. Heard was also awarded $2m (£1.6m) in compensatory damages, so Depp’s total is now $8.35m (£6.7m).

Of course she is blaming social media. She takes responsibility for nothing.

You have to admit when you are wrong regardless.. she was innocent until proven guilty both parties should not have aired their dirty laundry in public.. so her as an actress should know she is in the public eye I didn’t even know who she was till Aquaman to be honest.. I know I was and am still team Johnny before, during and after the trial… she needs to face consequences for her actions and this I one of them.. eye for an eye and the publoc took care of it with freedom of speech…

If you lie about someone abusing you, portraying yourself as a victim when you are not, then I think it’s fair that you have consequences for those actions.

This is ridiculous. She brought all the attention to herself with her lies. I would tell her to her face that she is a lair and a user. She only married Johnny for her career. If any woman was abused as she claims they would have medical proof to back them up. She never went for treatment on any occasion. Because it never happened. Get over your loss and get on with your life like you said that you wanted to do. Leave the rest of us alone we don’t want to hear from you anymore. Go…

Oh please. If you’re going to air your dirty laundry, secrets and lies to the public then you’re fair game.
On or off social media, once the door is opened you’re fair game for anything that comes your way, Good Or Bad

Amber you need to just throw in the towel
There is no interestvin anything you have to say.
So raise that baby and forget about being a CELEBRITY.

What you did is unforgiving and bottom line is you’re not liked – you were only famous for being Johnny’s wife and now the marriage is dissolved.

goodbye
