A Michigan woman is suing a man for 10,000 dollars because he stood her up on a date.
According to TMZ, a woman named QaShontae Short had filed a lawsuit against Richard Jordan in 67th District Court for ‘intentional infliction of emotional distress’, stating that he didn’t show up for their date.
The outlet reported that she first launched this suit back in 2020 when Richard didn’t meet her for her mother’s birthday when her mother recently passed away. She said that he did it on purpose.
Short and Jordan appeared via Zoom to attend the virtual hearing.
During a recent meeting, Richard stated that the whole thing was absurd and it is, in fact, a waste of the court’s precious time.
“To be honest with you sir, I thought this was just gonna be thrown out,” He said to Judge Herman Marable Jr.
“We had a date, one date, and nothing else after that, and now I’m being sued for $10,000. I think this is a waste of your time.”
Short accused Jordan of ‘perjury’ by claiming he lied to her about going on a date. However, Judge Marable told her the case didn’t fall in that category.
In the now-viral video, Short and Judge Marable argued over if ditching someone on a date is a crime or not.
“You do understand what perjury is, right?! It’s a false statement made under oath! Under oath! It’s a false statement made under oath. You get it?”
The Judge further added that the woman had wrongly accused Jordan,
“I don’t see anything in the complaint that says he made a false statement under oath.”
“Because you don’t know what happened, you’re on the outside looking in! You don’t know anything.” The woman responded.
“But you’re a player! You have to lay out your allegations properly.” Judge Marable replied.
Things escalated quickly, and the two had a heated debate over the zoom session.
“The Zoom conference quickly erupted into a heated argument between QaShontae and Judge Marable, who eventually ripped his face shield off to raise his voice at her … while she continues to shout over him.” TMZ wrote.
Eventually, the Judge told QaShontae that she had filed her complaint in the wrong court as her claim was outside the district court’s jurisdiction and should be handled in a circuit court instead.
“Are we done here?” asked the angryJudge Marable.
“Ummmm, I need to see because I was not aware since you said perjury was not on there, I was not aware that a criminal offense for intentional infliction of emotional distress was considered a criminal offense,” Short replied.
After this, she was removed from the Zoom call, and Jordan could be seen shaking his head and looking astonished in the video.
Daily Mail reported that QaShontae has a history of filing frivolous lawsuits, including several cases that she filed against the Flint Police Department and AT&T that were registered in 2020 and later dismissed.
It seems like Short is getting another Date with Jordan, but this time, in the circuit court.
Do you think this woman did the right thing? Should it be considered a ‘criminal offence’ to stand someone up on date? Let us know your thoughts.
