A woman sent her fake boyfriend an enormous amount of cash only to be catfished by him later.
Recently a woman named Terri appeared on Dr. Phil and shared her story about how she was scammed by a person named Ricardo in the name of relationship.
Terri explained that she met Ricardo on Facebook messenger and the two instantly hit it off and started chatting all the time. He told her he was a rich man and was looking for a partner he could spoil with his love and money.
Ricardo told Terri that he was from Los Angeles but his work kept him in Montreal, Canada so they could not meet each other.
A month after they started talking, Ricardo asked Terri to invest $10,000 in Bitcoin in cryptocurrency Bitcoin and promised that she will become a millionaire within six months.
Over time, Terri sent a total amount of nearly $80,000 to Ricardo in the hopes of becoming a millionaire. However, Terri’s family suspected Ricardo to be a scam and constantly asked her to investigate about his identity.
Meanwhile, she kept insisting Ricardo to meet up in person but there was always an excuse ready which prevented him from meeting her.
“Terri has been sending Ricardo money ever since, with only photos and phone calls to prove that her e-boyfriend exists — but she’s never seen a penny from her investments,” The Post wrote.
Terri’s sister Tammy brought Terri on Dr. Phil’s show believing that Ricardo was a total scam.
“People are still telling me that Ricardo isn’t real, that he’s scamming me and that he’s not in Canada,” said Terri. “I don’t believe them … I believe Ricardo’s real.”
Dr. Phil did some deep digging into the matter and found the truth about Ricardo – he wasn’t REAL!
Dr. Phil found out that the man who appeared in the photos Ricardo sent to Terri was actually James who had never spoken to Terri.
The photos were actually stolen from his social media and Ricardo used them for his ‘Romance scams.’
“I’ve been dealing with this for over 10 years,” James said in a video sent to the “Dr. Phil” show. “I hope this video can show that I am the person in the photos, but I am not the person that Terri has been talking to and sending money to.”
“I’m heartbroken,” said Terri vowing to block Ricardo and getting a new phone number. “But I’m done.”
