As most of the modern world probably knows by now, Aquaman star Amber Heard and famed actor Johnny Depp are currently embroiled in a messy defamation lawsuit. The suit is merely another prominent event in the series of developments that have ultimately made up the public squabble between Depp and Heard.
This entire mess stems from a 2018 op-ed penned by Heard for The Washington Post wherein she described herself as a victim of domestic abuse. Without naming any names, Heard had implied in her writing that Depp had subjected her to an abusive environment while they were in a relationship together.
Depp now claims that Depp’s op-ed was littered with falsehoods and has denied ever laying a hand on Heard or any other woman. Now, Depp is suing heard in a $50 million defamation lawsuit that is garnering more public interest with each passing day.
To respond, Heard filed a counter-suit herself, suing Depp for $100 million in damages while claiming that she was indeed a victim of abuse in her relationship with the actor. It’s also worth noting that Depp has been adamant in his testimonies that he has been the victim of abuse in the relationship, not Heard.
A Comedian’s Take
Whether you’re just a regular joe or if you’re a world-class celebrity, you may have your eyes glued on your television sets as you update yourself on the events of the trial. There are fans on both sides of the aisle who have been adamant in their support for their respective idols. Not one to shy away from speaking his mind, comedian Bill Burr made his opinions known to the world on the latest episode of his Monday Morning Podcast.
Here are snippets of what Burr had to say:
“I’m too big a Johnny Depp fan to watch (the trial). I love that guy and I just, I don’t want to hear all these personal details and sh*t.”
But even though he might not be following the case as closely as other people, Burr keeps himself updated with some of the major highlights. “From what I’ve seen, the guy is f***ing destroying.”
Burr then proceeded to say that he thought Depp was innocent and that he is deserving of a public apology once it’s all said and done. Depp was infamously dropped from his roles on big-budget franchises, including Fantastic Beasts and Pirates of the Caribbean. Many of the actor’s supporters feel that he was unfairly dropped from those franchises and that Disney owes him an apology.
Fans Are Getting Noisy
Aside from heeding an apology from Heard, Burr also believes that Heard’s fans, who have been badmouthing Depp this entire time, need to apologize to him as well. “It’d be nice if they publicly apologized and said, ‘Maybe next time we won’t jump to conclusions,” said the comedian.
