Joelle Joanie “JoJo” Siwa is a popular American dancer, actress, YouTuber, and singer. She is known for her appearance on two seasons of Dance Moms with her mum, Jessalynn Siwa.
Her hit singles include Boomerang, High Top Shoes, Hold the Drama, Kid in a Candy Store, Nobody Can Change Me!, Every Girl’s a Super Girl, and It’s Time to Celebrate.
The 19-year-old boasts millions of followers on her social media accounts, especially her YouTube channel, where she regularly posts her day-to-day life and routine activities.
Recently, the teenager appeared on the We’re Having Gay Sex podcast and explained that it’s not always fun and games when you are famous, especially at such a young age.
“I’m very behind in the world of love, because most people go to a freshmen dance and they go with a date,” she said. “They go to homecoming with a different date. And then they go to prom 14 times… and they have a summer fling, and they have their hook up in the car in the school parking lot.”
Adding that she has never had any of that because of her fame, Siwa said she feels like an eighth grader in love land.
“I never had any of that. I feel like a lot of times, I’m an eighth grader in love land.”
The D.R.E.A.M.S singer explained that although she is proud of herself for achieving so much at such a young age, she sometimes feels that she cannot enjoy ‘normal stuff’ like other teenagers, particularly in romance and dating, and the reason is her celebrity status.
“It’s hard for me. It’s hard for the person I’m dating or talking to, because I can’t do things. Like how most people can go on a dinner date, I can’t go on a dinner date normally,” she said.
She then went on to explain that a lot of friends talked about their crazy romantic ventures and their love lives when she had never experienced any of that because people recognized her everywhere.
“Any time I’m away from house, I’ve only had sex in my own room or hotel room,” she told the podcast. “I don’t really know what normal teenagers do, but I’m assuming it happens [in a] bathroom stall – wherever – but because of who I am, I can’t do that.”
The YouTube star received praise for being honest about her experiences, and many people said she deserves to experience all that she has been missing out on.
Some queer fans of the YouTuber said they can relate to Siwa, with one saying they are 22 and still ‘don’t know anything.’
