Mom Forced to Pay Teacher £100 After She Was Late Picking Up Child from School

A Mum was forced to pay a £100 fine after she got an hour late picking up her child from school.

Kristin Evans, the teacher who collected the cash from the parent shared the issue on her TikTok account. She revealed that her school administration charges $2 a minute to the parents who pick up their children after the due time from school.

Teacher Kristine, who goes by the username @mrs._evans on the video-sharing platform, said she was the only teacher on duty, and when this mother arrived an hour late, her director charged her $116 (£97) as fine money.

“The director of my school just walked up to me and handed me £100,” Evans said in her video.

“She said it was because one of my half-day students was picked up almost an hour late, and we get paid £1.60 a minute for every minute that they’re late.”

She added, “So this parent was charged for being late, and it goes directly into my pocket.”

The teacher said it felt a bit weird taking that money.

“This is a first, and it feels weird. During my 10+ years in public education, I regularly waited 20-30 mins after school with students waiting for parent pick up. #publiceducation,” she captioned her TikTok video.

“This late pick up policy is in my new school’s admission agreement. #privateschool This also is not the first or second or third time they’ve been 20+ mins late without notice or communication but this was the first time they were charged the late pick up fee.”

Teacher Kristine’s video received a mixed response on social media, and people were divided in their opinions in the comment section.

“As a child that had a late parent, MAKE THEM PAY,” one person defended the school policy.

“That’s awesome you actually get it! I feel like some schools would keep it,” said another.

“That’s good. Parents shouldn’t be late,” a third said.

“honestly i love it. as someone who had to wait due to negligence, make them pay,” a fourth commented.

“That’s awesome!! All teachers should get paid extra like that,” another added.

Meanwhile, others were not pleased to learn about this policy and said it was unfair.

“I can remember crying because I was stuck in traffic… I couldn’t get to my child’s daycare before it closed or afford the fine and they called police,” one said about their personal experience.

“Imagine that mum freaking out, rushing to get there with high anxiety and then you get there and it’s like fork over the money… not a good day for that mum,” added another.

“Yeah I couldn’t morally keep that money I’d have to return it to the parents,” a third wrote.

“Wait but what if they were really busy,” someone asked.
