In an incredible turn of events, Lizz Cannon, a 49-year-old widow from Florida, found herself in a surprising love story.
After her husband of twenty years passed away, Lizz’s life took an unexpected twist when she met Gabriel Castaneda, a 29-year-old man. Their meeting, filled with fate and a strong connection, led to a unique and captivating journey of love, loss, and unconventional relationships.
A year after meeting Gabriel, a software developer, Lizz and him welcomed Fatima, 43, into their relationship, forming a loving throuple that endures to this day. Lizz and Josh, a chef, initially met through a mutual friend in 2000 and married the following year.
Throughout their marriage, they embraced polyamory, with Lizz having two partners, one in Florida and another in a different state. However, tragedy struck in September 2012 when Josh was diagnosed with liver disease. Despite Lizz’s efforts, Josh passed away on December 19, 2021, leaving her devastated.
“Before Josh passed away, he told me he wanted me to live my life to the fullest,” said Lizz.
Coping with her grief, Lizz decided to join a nearby roller-skating class in April 2022. It was there that she crossed paths with Gabriel, her now husband.
“Losing [Josh] was like nothing I’d ever been through, which is why meeting Gabriel was so out of the blue. We exchanged phone numbers, we went for dinner later that week and knew that we had a special connection,” she added.
“I’ll never stop grieving Josh, but it has gotten easier. I know he would’ve loved Gabriel, and we would’ve been so happy. It was love at first sight. I know Gabriel is my angel sent from above by Josh.”
Gabriel had previously been in one relationship, while Lizz had been dating multiple partners in a polyamorous setup.
“When I told him about being polyamorous, he was so open and interested,” she said. “Soon after, we explored it together and were happily surprised to find ourselves in a our throuple.”
In February 2023, they connected with Fatima, who lives in a different state, through a dating app called HER, and they hit it off immediately.
“She instantly enriched our relationship and it was like we had known each other for years. Some people might not get polyamory, but for Gabriel and I, it aligns with our values and how we want to live our lives.”
Elisabeth continued, “We make sure to check-in with each other about everything, not for permission, but out of respect and being mindful of safe sex practices is non-negotiable. If you have love and trust at the center of a relationship, polyamory will work out.”
The trio frequently enjoys outings together, such as dinners, dancing, and visits to museum exhibits. In May 2023, Lizz and Gabriel exchanged vows in their garden in Florida, surrounded by 45 guests during an outdoor celebration.
They embrace a polyamorous lifestyle that they describe as “healthy and vibrant” and receive unwavering support from Lizz’s family and their circle of friends.
The married couple continues to be very happy, seeing their girlfriend every five weeks for an extended weekend. They all go on outings together as a group, but sometimes Fatima also spends time separately with Lizz and Gabriel.
“I love my husband, but he’s not a woman, and we communicate differently,” Elisabeth said. “Me and Gabriel each have our own relationship with Fatima.”
“To me, marriage isn’t about being sexually exclusive, but it’s about building a life together, which is exactly what we are doing. Things have to be healthy and vibrant and that’s why we have a shared girlfriend. But we are open to dating other people, outside of our relationship.”
