Sandra Bullock Is A Mother of Two Adopted Black Kids, And She Wishes Their Skin Colors Matched

Sandra Annette Bullock, popularly known as Sandra Bullock, is a renowned American actress and producer.

She first rose to fame in 1994 with her breakthrough role in the action thriller film ‘Speed’ and established herself as a successful actress with her lead roles in ‘While You Were Sleeping’, ‘Hope Floats’, ‘The Net’, and ‘A Time To Kill.’

Bullock received several awards throughout her acting career, including Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She was recognized as the world’s highest-paid actress in 2010 and 2014.

In 2010, ‘The Proposal’ actress was also named as one of the world’s 100 most influential people.

In December 2021, Sandra opened up about her relationship with her adopted children Louis and Laila, whom she adopted in 2010 and 2015.

In her interview with Red Table Talk, the Oscar winner talked about how she educated her children on the subject of race from a very young age.

“To say that I wished our skins matched… sometimes I do,” she said while talking to Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield Norris.

“Because then it would be easier on how people approach us. And I have the same feelings as a woman with brown skin, and it being her babies. Or a white woman with white babies,” she continued.

When Jada’s daughter Willow added a comment during their discussion,

“It’s the mother-child dynamic. There is no color. We don’t have to put a color on.”

Bullock replied, “Maybe one day that will go away. Maybe one day we will be able to see with different eyes.”

According to Daily Mail, this is not the first time the ‘Ocean’s 8’ actress spoke about racial discrimination. In 2015, Bullock told Glamour Magazine that she was always concerned about her son’s safety.

“You see how far we’ve come in civil rights – and where we’ve gotten back to now. I want my son to be safe. I want my son to be judged for the man he is.”

She further said, “We are at a point now where if we don’t do something, we will have destroyed what so many amazing people have done.”

Both Louise and Laila are African-Americans by identity, and their star mother loves them more than anything.

Speaking to PEOPLE (the TV Show!), the star mother described her relationship with her two kids.

“I’m just the mom, when I’m gone, I’m missed, when I’m there, I’m annoying, and that’s exactly the way it should be.” She said.

When correspondent Sandra Vergara asked Bullock if her kids think she’s cool, the Bird Box star replied,

“No, not at all. Not unless I bring home some kind of treat. Last night I came home with donuts. I was so incredibly cool at that moment!”

“I love who they are,” she continued. “Every day I get to see who they are. I am one of the lucky individuals that gets to be around my children all the time and see who they get to grow up and be. And who they’re growing up to be, I couldn’t be more proud of.”

  1. I will say, as a mixed kid who was born the very same year as Sandra, I believe, in the 60s and 70s, people didn’t even know to hide their stupidity and ignorance. And the reason I mention that is my mother, blond hair, beautiful, lily white and people wondered how the hell she is here with this mixed kid, which people didn’t even necessarily see as mixed at that time.
So, our “tones” were clearly different, but my mom was simultaneously clueless, being from France and not experiencing the same racism in France at that time and also a tiger that defended me ferociously when things came at me that shouldn’t have.
I see you, Sandra. Protect your kids from the things you know to be threats. I salute you for your concern and awareness and teach your kids simultaneously the beauty of their Blackness along with the integration of systemic racism they must face and never forget to remind them, they are are greater than the situation presented, as well as knowing the necessity and angelic quality of those such as yourself that can actually see others who may suffer as you never will. But, your spirit is Godly in that protection, embracing and love of all things that are genuinely good and desperately needs to remain for this planet to survive.
