These days, weddings have become so much more than an occasion for two people to solidify their love and commitment for one another. While couples in love should still serve as the heart of any kind of wedding ceremony, there’s no discounting the fact that weddings, in general, have been drastically commercialized recently.

This is especially true in the age of social media, wherein commoditization is constantly being pushed toward people browsing the internet. As a result, brides and grooms will try to outdo other couples with lavish decorations, impressive food spreads, and other party gimmicks. However, a select few out there still find beauty in simplicity.

Not to say that there’s anything wrong with wanting to spend a lot of money on a wedding. Any couple should have the right to spend as much money as reasonably possible to celebrate their big day. But there’s also nothing wrong with wanting to stick to a budget either. And that’s exactly what Rachel Connealy did.

A Modest Wedding

Rachel is a bride from Florida who has recently gone viral on the internet for managing to secure a wedding dress for her big day for less than $10. Actually, she managed to bag two different dresses for less than $10. The bride told the story of her dress on her personal TikTok account, and the video immediately went viral. Rachel rose to fame on the internet almost instantly, and she even managed to be a guest on Good Morning America. “I still felt like a princess on my day,” she said on the show.

All over the world, brides feel the pressure of having to spend more money than they’re able on wedding dresses because it’s what they see on sites like Instagram and Facebook. Rachel is countering this kind of mindset by telling brides that they can still feel beautiful with modest clothing. She also posted pictures of her dress on her personal Instagram account, wherein she has more than 18,000 followers.

Hunting for the Perfect Dress

While many hopeful brides set appointments with the hottest ateliers, Sophie went from thrift store to thrift store in order for her to look for her dress. She eventually would up getting two dresses, one worth $3 and the other worth $5. That meant that Rachel spent a total of $8 on her wedding dress, even when many other brides could spend as much as $8,000 on their custom dresses.

Despite the modest price, many people on TikTok have paid Rachel compliments for how good the dress looks on her. Some have even said that it closely resembles the Givenchy dress that Meghan Markle wore during her wedding to Prince Harry back in 2019.

Again, there’s just so much pressure for couples to spend too much money on their wedding these days. While others are okay with simpler celebrations, others stretch their budgets way too much for just one party. Where do you stand on this issue? Do you think that some couples are really guilty of spending an excessive amount of money?
