The tragic case of Gabby Petito is once again in the spotlight following the release of American Murder: Gabby Petito on Netflix.
Gabby was murdered by her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, in Wyoming during their road trip in the summer of 2021.
According to Daily Mail, an investigation report confirmed that Petito was strangled to death and had been dead for three to four weeks before she was found. Her death was ruled a homicide.
In October 2021, Laundrie died by suicide from a gunshot wound, and his remains were found in Florida’s Carlton Reserve.

Before her life was cut short, Gabby wrote an emotional letter to her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie. Her heartbreaking story, which shook the world four years ago, is being revisited as the new three-part documentary sheds light on the events leading up to her death.
The series dives deep into the weeks before the tragedy, offering a closer look at what really happened.
The series also includes bodycam footage from Utah police, showing officers talking to the couple after someone reported seeing Laundrie slap Petito.
Before the documentary came out, the FBI released a heartbreaking letter Petito wrote to Laundrie, asking him to stop calling her names.
“Just please stop crying and stop calling me names because we’re a team and I’m here with you,” the letter read.

“Yes, I can be a child sometimes I know, but it’s ‘cause you give me this energy and I just love you too much. Like so much it hurts,” it continued.
“So, you in pain is killing me. I’m not trying to be negative, but I’m frustrated there’s not more I can do.”
The series has stirred controversy, especially over the use of an AI-generated voice to read her journals, making it sound like Petito herself.
Many viewers found it unsettling and called it “creepy” and “uncomfortable.”
“I hated it personally, I’m sure her family approved it and it may have been really meaningful to them,” someone wrote on Reddit. “But if I die tragically please no one recreate my voice to make a better documentary. Creepy.”
“Yeah, made me uncomfortable. As soon as I heard it I went to reddit to see if anybody else had the same reaction haha,” a second user commented.

“I am struggling to watch because it’s just so ugh. He looks and acts so creepy towards her and they just look awkward and uncomfortable together,” a third user penned.
“Netflix has been caught using AI on their true crime series in the past so I’m not really surprised, It’s just gross that they have no shame in doing this sort of thing,” added another.
“The AI voiceover using her voice really grosses me out.”
“I am on episode 2 and I already feel so sick and grossed out. What in the world??? Especially the AI voiceover… creepy AF,” said someone else.
