Gigi Hadid Says Joe Jonas First Asked Her Out When She Was 13

Gigi Hadid once said that Joe Jonas first asked her out when she was only 13 years old.

While answering one of her fans questions on Periscope in September 2015, the supermodel opened up about her first meeting with the Waffle House singer and said,

“We met at the Grammys when I was 13 years old,” she revealed. “And he asked me to a baseball game, and I said, ‘No.'”

“It was literally because I was like so nervous I didn’t even know what it meant to hang out with a boy,” she added. “Also, I think Grammys are on a Sunday and I didn’t want to tell him I had school the next day.”

The pair dated briefly for about five months in 2015 after Gigi’s split with the Australian pop star Cody Simpson. The two dated on and off for about two years, from 2013 to 2015.

Gigi first met Cody when she appeared in his music video for Surfboard. They dated for a few months before breaking up in 2014. The duo reunited after a few months, only to split eventually in 2015. After their breakup, Simpson told DeJour in an interview that their breakup was ‘cordial.’

“I love my ex-girlfriend, I always will. It was an amicable, mutual decision, and we still talk every now and then, but the highly publicized thing made me uncomfortable,” he said at that time.

The singer admitted that dating Gigi in the spotlight affected their relationship, and they couldn’t keep up.

“Going out to dinner and there being all this paparazzi and stuff… As soon as we split I had the realization that I was straying away from who I was as a whole person. I want to keep it low-key and focus on my music.”

Coming back to Hadid’s romance with Jonas – the pair dated for five months before splitting in November 2015. After their split, a source revealed to Us Weekly that it occurred due to their busy schedules.

“It was just due to busy schedules,” the source said. “They are just going to be friends for now, but it wasn’t [due to] anything serious.”

While dating, Gigi and Joe often shared photos together on their Instagram accounts and even double-dated with Joe’s ex-girlfriend and Gigi’s buddy, Taylor Swift, and her then-boyfriend, Calvin Harris, in London.

According to Us Weekly, “They made their red carpet debut as a couple in early October at the Global Lyme Alliance Inaugural Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street to support Hadid’s mom, former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ star Yolanda Foster.”

While they were together, Cara Delevingne, who was a fan of their relationship, gave them a nickname – “G.I. Joe.”

Her friend, Gigi, liked the name so much she once wore a T-shirt with the letters “G.I.” emblazoned on it as she stepped out with Jonas in Los Angeles in 2015.
