Okay, there’s no denying that the idea of marriage seems to be losing its luster in the eyes of many young couples these days. However, it’s still one of the most popular and strongest social institutions in the world today.
To a lot of couples, marriage is essentially the final step to living a life of eternal happiness with the person you love. However, there are still so many people who make the mistake of thinking that marriage is something easy and that it doesn’t require a lot of work.
They think that just because their relationship is already pretty solid, marriage wouldn’t really change anything.
But that is rarely the case. There are plenty of things that might come up in a marriage that you would never have noticed in the past. And if you notice that these red flags are present in your marriage, then you should definitely be worried.
You have to be able to eliminate these red flags and fix them if you are interested in ensuring the longevity of your relationship.
You don’t have to panic just yet if you happen to find out that your relationship has a lot of these red flags. You still have a chance to fix things.
The key is in spotting the red flags early before they actually become the norm in the relationship. Once the red flags become habitual, then they can become very hard to get rid of.
So, if you notice that a bunch of these red flags are present in your relationship, you need to be able to act fast. You need to do your part in making some changes in the relationship as soon as possible.
1. You don’t express an interest in each other’s feelings.
You must always be doing your part in making sure that your partner feels like you are invested in how they feel. If you don’t, then they might feel like they’re just being overlooked and undervalued in the marriage.
2. You stop making the effort in your relationship.
A relationship is ALWAYS going to require a lot of effort even when you’re already married. You might think that you’re now allowed to relax and coast just because you’re a wedded couple already.
And even though the harmful effects might not necessarily be immediate, they’re going to be serious. You must ALWAYS be putting a lot of effort into your relationship.
3. You just nag and nag without talking about a possible solution.
There really isn’t any merit in complaining about something without discussing possible resolutions. You always need to be able to talk about ways that you can resolve your issues within your relationship.
Otherwise, you’re just nagging and complaining. And that doesn’t make for a very pleasant relationship atmosphere.
4. You belittle your partner just to make them feel bad.
There should always be room for criticism in the relationship. It’s the only way for you to be honest with one another and grow as a couple. However, you should always criticize out of love.
If you are only criticizing someone just to make them feel bad, then you know that that isn’t the ideal in any kind of relationship.
5. You would both rather go out without one another.
If you would rather go out and do things without your partner, then that’s never a good thing if it’s something that happens way too often.
You know that things are bad in your relationship whenever you find yourselves wanting to spend more time apart than time together.
6. You blow the little things out of proportion.
You have a way of taking the little things and making a big deal out of them. Granted, you always want to be finding meaning in even the simplest aspects of your relationship.
That means you’re not taking the relationship for granted. However, you don’t want to be blowing things out of proportion either. You don’t want to be attracting unnecessary drama in your relationship.
7. You don’t communicate with one another.
Communication is always going to be the foundation on which two people can build a relationship. You both must always make it a point to be communicating with one another.
It’s the only way you can be on the same page in your marriage. If you’re going to have a true partnership, you need to be acting as one. And you can’t do so without effective communication.
8. You try to find excuses to stay out as late as possible.
You know that something is inherently wrong in your relationship when you are always looking to just stay out as much as possible.
When you have a happy marriage, then you would always want to be scrambling to get home to be with your partner. But if you’re finding reasons to stay out, then that shows that something is wrong in the household.
