Jennifer Garner has looked back on a European vacation she took while married to Ben Affleck, and the word she picked was “wonderful.” InStyle described the comments as rare.
Jennifer Garner Reflects on a ‘Wonderful’ Vacation with Affleck
Jennifer Garner rarely talks about the marriage in public. One warm adjective about a trip abroad, said years after the divorce, carries more weight than a long sit-down interview would.
Affleck has been guarded on his side too. According to Elite Daily, he has deflected recent questions about his love life by saying dating is “not a big priority” right now.
Wonderful is a plain word, and that is why it lands. Nobody uses it for a trip they would rather forget.
The Couple’s Marriage Lasted a Decade
Garner and Affleck shot Daredevil together in 2002, according to Elite Daily. They did not start dating until two years later. He proposed in 2005, and the couple married and welcomed their first child that same year.
Ten years followed. Elite Daily reports they were married for a decade before divorcing in 2015.
Affleck came into that marriage with one of the most watched dating histories in Hollywood. Elite Daily lists Gwyneth Paltrow, whom he met on Shakespeare in Love, and Jennifer Lopez, whom he met on the set of Gigli. He and Lopez planned a September 2003 wedding, then postponed it over what they called “excessive media attention.” They ended things in early 2004, the same year he and Garner began dating.
The decade Jennifer Garner spent with him was the longest stretch of that history. A marriage that long piles up holidays, airports and dinners nobody outside it remembers. The divorce ended the marriage. It did not go back and cancel the good weeks inside it.
Garner calling one of those weeks wonderful is not a statement about getting back together, and nothing in her comments suggests it. Divorced people can say a trip was good. Most simply choose not to say it out loud.

Their first arrived in 2005, and two more followed before the 2015 split.
Three children means the two were never going to fully disappear from each other’s lives after the divorce. Every school event and every holiday handover runs through the person they used to travel with. Speaking kindly about a past vacation keeps the shared history from turning into a sore subject the whole family has to tiptoe around.
Jennifer Garner did not turn the memory into a speech about the divorce or about Affleck. She called the trip wonderful and left it there.
